Joo Kyung Yoon. Exhibition runs from September 8 - October 12, 2000. An opening reception on Friday, September 8, 6-8 PM, will showcase the rock music of Left of Zed with John Cho from 7:30 PM.
The title of the exhibition, "Charm Offensive" is a term coined by political analysts to refer to the unexpected ‘open’ posture of North Korean leadership in the recent historic meeting between North and South Korean Presidents as well as with officials from other countries.
The exhibition appropriates this curious word play to suggest a vital tension that motivates and animates the selected works. While these works appear at first glance to operate within comfortable and comforting strategies of aesthetic conventions such as landscape or documentary, viewers are also lured into a deeper engagement with further associations and meanings.
