FULLERTON (CNS) _ With six people suspected in a recent gang slaying already in custody, Fullerton police on Sept. 18 intensified the search for a seventh.
Jason Liu, 21, of Riverside is charged in the fatal shooting on Sept. 13 of Russell Su, 18, of Irvine, and the serious wounding of three other Irvine residents.
Liu, who has friends and relatives in Torrance, is believed to be armed and dangerous and knows hes being sought, Fullerton police Sgt. Joe Klein said.
Police are also looking for Lius 1994 white Toyota Camry, license plate 3JUP611, Klein said.
A second car used in the attack, a black Toyota Camry, was recovered, although no weapons have been found, Klein said.
Jin Chung, 18, of Cerritos, was arrested on Sept. 14 during a gang sweep, but was released, Klein said.
Klein said Su and six others, riding in three cars, went to Emery Park in an upscale Fullerton neighborhood that is not frequented by gangs for a prearranged meeting to settle a dispute.
Were not releasing details on the previous altercation, Klein said.
The victims took baseball bats and metal pipes, but the other side was armed with a weapon, Klein said.
The victims fled at one point, but ended up getting boxed in on a cul de sac.
The victims managed to get to a Fullerton hospital on their own, Klein said.
One of the victims has been released from the hospital, but two remain in seirous condition, Klein said. The names of the victims were not released.
Meanwhile, prosecutors filed charges against Liu and the six in custody. They include Louis Liu, 19, no relation to Jason, Justin Loh, 18, and Yong Kenny Hong, 18. Also charged are two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old.
Deputy District Attorney Dennis Conway said each of the seven is charged with one count of murder, six counts of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation; a gang enhancement, use of a gun, and the special circumstance of murder while shooting from a car.
Only one person is believed to have fired a weapon, but Conway refused to say who that is.
Conway said the juveniles, who were charged as adults under new state law, face life in prison without parole if convicted on all counts. No decision has been made on whether to seek the death penalty on the others, he said.
